Baltimore Takes on the Green Initiative

Through a series of activities, hobbies, and new city regulations Baltimore makes the community aware of how they can help go green. Baltimore locals have taken 80 square miles of land and have planted, grown and improved its resources.

It’s the people of Baltimore who are the brains behind the city’s go green initiative. The Office of Sustainability and local green organizations do their individual part to change Baltimore’s ways. Through local tree plantings, community clean-ups and environmental workshops, residents are making it a cleaner, greener Baltimore.

The Go Green initiative has spread to the outskirts of the city and has reached roughly 1,200 backyards of organic farmers. TreeBaltimore, a mayoral initiative created in 2007, has a goal to increase the city’s tree canopy to 40%.  Environmental organizations work hard with local schools and residents to be sure everyone is in the know about how to reduce, reuse, and recycle.
